The Best Vegan Cheese Pizzas in the United States

Pizza

Whether you're dairy-free by choice or by need, finding a solid vegan cheese pizza can feel like winning the food lottery. For me, it’s not about the toppings—it's all about the cheese. I’m allergic to dairy, but I’ll still order real pepperoni sometimes, so long as the cheese is vegan I am happy. This list is based purely on the vegan cheese experience, not the full vegan topping lineup.

Here are my favorite spots for dairy-free cheese pizza across the country. I’ve included links so you can find them yourself and maybe even plan your own little pizza tour.

1. Saluggi's East – New York City, NY

This one’s at the top for a reason. Their vegan cheese melts right, tastes great, and works perfectly with that chewy NYC-style crust. It comes with fresh basil and never fails me. Also if you love pepperoni, they have some of the best most fresh pepperoni I have ever had on a pizza. It’s not a fully vegan spot, but if you’re dairy-free, it hits the mark every time.

2. Stone's Throw Pizza – Waterbury, VT

Unexpectedly good! Their vegan cheese is creamy and satisfying, and the dough is just the right balance of crispy and chewy. It is hands down the best pizza place in Vermont, and they have multiple locations around the state. It’s cozy and laid-back, and the pizza is legit. The vibe of this location in particular is second to none.

3. Pi Pizzeria – Salt Lake City, UT

This one grew on me fast. The vegan cheese at Pi melts better than most and pairs well with their thicker crust style. The owners actually did reasearch for their vegan cheese and it truly shows with the quality. They are my favoite in Salt Lake City. It’s a chill spot, no matter which location you go to, with solid pies every time. A plus, try asking for their vegan ranch and or their vegan pull-aparts (they are mouth watteringly amazing.)

4. Whole Foods (Mostly Nationwide)

Honestly, I’m not even embarrassed to include this. For the price and convenience, Whole Foods' vegan cheese pizza holds its own. In my experience, they do not charge extra for making the pizza with vegan cheese. It costs around $15 for a large pizza, which is almost unheard of when you are getting anything vegan. It’s consistent, tasty, and makes a great last-minute dinner when you’re on the road. Be sure to call ahead to order to see if they have vegan cheese. I have noticed that some stores don't carry it all the time.

5. Gina’s Pizza – Laguna Beach, CA

Beach town pizza with a vegan option that doesn’t disappoint. The crust is thin and crisp, and the cheese holds up well. Plus, you’re in Laguna—can’t complain.

Honorable Mention:

Slackwater – Salt Lake City, UT

The vegan cheese here is decent—just not quite as melty or flavorful as Pi. Still, it deserves a mention, especially for the chill atmosphere and awesome beer list.

Vegan cheese pizzas have come a long way. Whether you're hunting down your next slice in NYC or grabbing something quick on a road trip, there's a good chance you’ll find something solid. Know a place I should try next? Drop it in the comments or DM me—I’m always up for a pizza mission.

Also, if you're dairy-free and constantly traveling like I am, here are a couple of quick tips:

- Always double-check the cheese before ordering and when you pick it up (if you have an allergic like me)

- Don’t be afraid to call ahead and ask what brand of cheese they use.

- If you find a Whole Foods in a pinch, that vegan pie can save your night.

Happy pizza hunting!
